Prepaid Energy Meter

Drawbacks of present meter reading system

WAPDA’s present meter reading system is based on meter readers.

A no. of errors get introduced at every stage

  • while noting down the meter reading

  • while processing the paid bills and the due bills

  • Time and labor consuming

  • There is no proper way to know

  • The consumer’s maximum demand

  • Usage details

  • Losses in the lines

  • The distribution company has to receive huge amounts in the form of pending bills which results

  • substantial revenue losses

  • hurdles to modernization

  • Wastage of power due to consumer’s lack of planning

  • No proper way to detect Power theft

  • Available credit is enough

  • Available credit ≤ 30%, not enough

  • Available credit ≤ 20%

  • Available credit ≤ 10%, meter maybe cut off soon

  Protocol

  • To avoid data collision and confusion, an appropriate protocol has been designed

Start of protocol:      ‘*”

Stop of protocol:       ‘$’
